Woburn Safari Park has a very capy announcement! Long-time resident Yoko, born in 2024, has a new friend in the Park… Stilton! A charming male who arrived earlier this year. The pair have recently been introduced, and from the looks of it, things are going pretty ‘gouda.’

Stilton joined from Johnsons of Old Hurt in April, and keepers carefully introduced him to Yoko through adjacent enclosures, letting them see, smell, and get to know each other before full contact. Positive interactions and calm behaviour guided each step of the introduction.
Now, Yoko and Stilton are exploring their semi-aquatic Foot Safari home together! The pair are bonding beautifully, Stilton’s calm confidence complements Yoko’s confident nature perfectly. Keepers are thrilled to see them relaxing, socialising, and enjoying each other’s company.
As an EAZA member, Woburn Safari Park participates in captive management to help conserve, this move is a highlight of how we work to help protect species and home them giving them the best husbandry and welfare While the future may hold capybara pups, for now, it is all about bonding and settling into their home with each other.
"We’re really pleased with how positively Yoko and Stilton have responded to one another so far. Introductions are always carefully managed by the team, so it’s fantastic to now see them comfortably sharing space together and showing encouraging social behaviours. Stilton has settled in brilliantly and we’re excited to watch their relationship continue to develop over time.” – Catherine Doherty, Head of Animal Encounters.
