Love in the Wild: Valentines Day at Woburn Safari Park

  • Animals

This Valentine’s Day, Woburn Safari Park is overflowing with love…, from heartwarming bromances to delightful Galentine’s dinners, the feelings of affection spread far and wide across the park.

Two new ponies, Harry and Daisy, arrived this year, but it’s the fascinating bond between Harry the Shetland pony and Harry the keeper that has captured the hearts of everyone. These two are inseparable!  Regularly spotted side by side during keeper husbandry tasks, or just enjoying each other’s company, it’s clear that these two share a special connection.

Cat Doherty, Head of Animal Encounters, shared that “sometimes it’s not the people who choose the animals, but rather the animals who choose the people.” This unique ‘bromance’ between Keeper Harry and pony Harry is a perfect example of that sentiment in action.

Pony Harry, the smallest of the ponies with his charming brown coat, is incredibly friendly. Visitors at Farmyard Friends often spot him nibbling on his favourite treats or warmly greeting guests. Be sure to stop by and experience this magical friendship for yourself!

This special connection seemed like the perfect story to share on Valentine’s Day, a time to celebrate love in all its forms. Watch the heartwarming moments between the two Harrys in the video below.

But the love at Woburn Safari Park doesn't stop there! Over in the Road Safari, the zebra girls - Imogen, Nguvu, and Olivia - celebrated Galentine’s Day with their own special dinner. True to the spirit of the occasion, the three best friends indulged in a delicious spread of snacks. Keepers took the time to decorate their dining area with love hearts and roses. It wasn’t long before the Eland antelope decided they should be invited too!

Valentine’s Day offers a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the connections formed between animals and their keepers. Some members of the team took time to capture sweet moments with their closest animal friends, sharing the incredible bonds they’ve built over time.
