Parrot Presents
Who doesn’t love a Secret Santa? The thrill of surprises is a highlight of the season - but this year, the parrots at Woburn Safari Park got in on the fun!
In the Foot Safari, keepers made Christmas extra special for the parrot flock with their very own Secret Santa celebration.
Woburn Safari Park shares animal wish lists, allowing visitors, families, and suppliers to contribute thoughtful presents for the animals. This Christmas, the parrots’ gifts came from the park’s keepers and generous suppliers, who helped fill the season with joy.
Yo-Yo and Wilma, two of the park's parrots, joined in the festive fun by picking a numbered piece of paper, corresponding to a present! This activity allowed them to showcase their natural behaviour of picking up objects - just as they would in the wild when foraging for food.
The celebrations didn’t stop there! Keepers shared the holiday spirit with the other members of the parrot flock, introducing the new enrichment items to their enclosures. Pepe, the Greater Sulphur-Crested Cockatoo, was especially thrilled, exploring the newest additions to his enclosure!

Woburn Safari Park would like to extend a huge thank you to the generous suppliers for their thoughtful gifts to the parrot flock this Christmas. Each present provides essential enrichment, helping the parrots showcase their natural behaviours while adding a festive touch to their enclosures.
Enrichment is a crucial part of caring for the parrots, encouraging them to climb, balance, and interact with their environment as they would in the wild. Stuart at Novaspark gifted a fantastic climbing structure made from coconut meaning the parrots can also enjoy the coconut’s essential nutrients.
Keeping the holiday spirit, BCQ Solutions treated the parrots to a Santa-shaped piñata, which keepers can fill with tasty treats. This not only brings festive cheer but encourages the birds to use their foraging skills to retrieve their snacks!
And lastly, the keepers in the Foot Safari, decided to join in on the fun and bought the parrots a big fun pack full of all different types of enrichment for them to enjoy.
Protecting a vulnerable species
The park proudly supports the World Parrot Trust, an incredible organisation dedicated to protecting wild parrot populations and ensuring their survival in their natural habitats. Through ongoing donations and awareness efforts, the keepers contribute to the conservation of these magnificent birds.
