Park Visitors Can Now Balance Vehicle Emissions through Forest Charity Partnership

  • News

Visitors to Woburn Safari Park have been given the exciting opportunity to compensate for their vehicle emissions, thanks to a new charity partnership with the Forest of Marston Vale.

This new initiative gives visitors the chance to balance the carbon output of their visiting vehicles, joining Woburn and the Forest of Marston Vale in their commitment to a sustainable future.

This forest charity are dedicated to planting trees in local communities, having already planted 2 million of them across 61 square miles. The Forest of Marston Vale explain that trees ‘help clean our air, lock up carbon’ and ‘are our best hope in combatting the climate crisis’.

A tree will balance 25kg of carbon dioxide per year over a lifetime (1).

An average visit to Woburn Safari Park will produce 2.49kg of CO2(2)  for two circuits of the Road Safari. Due to our new links with The Forest of Marston Vale we are able to purchase trees at a reduced cost of £10 in order for Woburn visitors to have maximum impact. This means that a donation of only £1 will balance your Carbon Footprint whilst you enter the home of lions, tigers and bears.

Katie Chapman, Head of Conservation and Research at Woburn Safari Park welcomed the partnership, explaining: ‘When we read about a local initiative to plant 5 million more trees in Bedfordshire, we wanted to offer visitors the chance to balance their carbon pawprint with this new exciting partnership.

We are always reviewing ways in which we can improve sustainability and reduce our impact on the environment. Being a drive through, our wildlife loving visitors are required to use vehicles for their wildly immersive day out. Where cars produce CO2, trees absorb CO2.’

This initiative is an important step in helping visitors make their visit more environmentally friendly, helping Woburn Safari Park and The Forest of Marston Vale make a direct positive impact on the local environment to ‘lock up’ emitted carbon, help prevent flooding and reduce air pollution.

Planting trees through this partnership will not only absorb CO2 and help combat climate change, explains Katie Chapman, but will also improve local habitats and protect native species. ‘We cannot forget that ‘The Wild is Closer than you Think’, and the team at Woburn feel equally passionate about preserving habitat for Britain’s Native Species.

Planting trees also creates habitats for many important native species, providing cleaner air and greater green spaces which can contribute to everyone’s mental health’.
