An early Christmas present as a trio of tiny baby monkeys arrive

Woburn Safari Park is thrilled to announce the welcome arrival of three squirrel monkey babies.

Although these primates aren't listed as endangered, they are under threat from deforestation and the fragmentation of their habitat, so every new birth is a cause for celebration. The latest additions take the overall troop number at Woburn to just short of 25!

Your chance to name a squirrel monkey baby

The trio, as well as mothers Bamboo, Tye, and Ringo are doing well. And keepers are now giving members of the public the chance to do the honours in giving Bamboo's baby the perfect name!

Keepers are requesting plant-themed names to match Bamboo’s own name and as the youngsters won’t be sexed until they begin to independently explore their home, names will also need to be gender-neutral.

To send in your name suggestion, head to the competition page before midnight on the 2nd January 2022. One lucky winner will receive a family ticket for two adults and three children AND £50 gift vouchers to spend at the Park.

Cat, Head of Animal Encounters, said: “The whole team is delighted to see the three youngsters doing so well and it’s lovely to see how caring the rest of the troop have been towards them too.

In the next few weeks, it’s likely that we will start to see the babies leaving their mother’s backs to do some exploring on their own, which everyone is excited for as they are such playful primates!”

The squirrel monkey enclosure re-opened in April this year, following an extensive refurbishment that included a new viewing platform for visitors. Featuring an expansive network of ropes, vantage points, platforms, and feeding devices, the enclosure has been carefully designed to encourage the monkeys’ natural behaviour.

As the babies grow in size and confidence, visitors will be able to enjoy watching them play and interact with one another.
