The trio of llamas came from Northumberland Country Zoo and have been settling into their new home at the safari park since August, so some keen-eyed visitors might have spotted the new herd already.

The small herd currently consists of females Chesca and Missy, plus male Cuzco

How can you tell the alpacas and llamas apart?

  • Llamas have a much longer face than alpacas, and alpacas have much more fur on their faces
  • Llamas are bigger than alpacas. While llamas can weigh up to 400 pounds, alpacas are more often around 150 pounds.
  • Llamas have long ears with a slight curve to them, while alpacas have short and straight ears
