Loss of male lion cub

  • Animals

We are very sad to announce the loss of one of our male lion cubs on Thursday 16th July.

The cub had shown progressively worse lameness in his front leg and was taken to our specialist veterinarian to be checked over. Following a thorough examination, it was identified that the condition was life-limiting and would cause chronic pain, negatively impacting on the young cub's life. We are extremely sad to announce that euthanasia was the kindest option for the cub.

This was a particularly difficult decision for keepers to make, and we know it will come as terribly sad news for all visitors to the Park, especially with the difficult times we are all living through.

The remaining litter of four African lion cubs continue to do very well, along with mother Dakota who is a brilliant, experienced mum.

There were plans for a competition to name three of the male cubs, but we will now be postponing this for a short time, to give our dedicated team of keepers some time to recover from this very sad news.

Woburn Safari Park would like to thank everyone for their continued support and for your help in supporting the incredibly important conservation causes, that are close to all of our hearts.
