Manuel the mongoose settles in at Woburn Safari Park

The Animal Encounters team has recently welcomed a male yellow mongoose to the Park.

The 3 1/2 year old mongoose arrived from Rotterdam Zoo and was introduced to his new mate, Miss Tibbs, shortly after arriving at Woburn Safari Park.

Yellow mongoose are listed as Least Concern, however human intervention is their greatest threat in the wild and with such a short generation length of just three years in the wild, it's important for collections to maintain a healthy breeding population.

Settling in at Woburn Safari Park

Manuel has been described by his keepers as being a confident and friendly individual.

Miss Tibbs, his female companion, was initially unsure of him but after a few days of putting him in his place, Manuel quickly learned her boundaries and the pair can now be seen snuggling up together in the evenings.

Keepers are hopeful that Miss Tibbs won't keep Manuel at "paws length" for too long, as they are looking forward to welcoming a litter of pups in the not too distant future!
